Finally, we can bury our faces in oversized blanket scarves and smear our berry lipstick all over our grande chai tea lattes. The wait it over! September has officially arrived (like four days ago, my bad).

Other than the typical girly stereotypes that are associated with this pivotal month there are legitimate reasons why it’s such a special time of year. It marks the end of summer, the beginning of the best season for fashion (layers, people) and the time of year where we all get to fight with our entire extended family, which is always a real treat.

But what is it that inspires countless leaf themed instagrams, endless “yaaaaassss” hashtags and an overwhelming sense of glee?

I can think of a few things.

1. THE FASHION IS ALWAYS BETTER

It’s just a fact that you can get way more elaborate during the fall than during the summer. Especially in August when in a lot of places you will simply melt to death if you even think about adding a cardigan. Fall is the time of year we can layer creatively, try out new trends and indulge in all of the new collections released by our favorite brands. During the summer there is something effortless and chic about throwing on a mini dress with some sneakers and a small cross body, but it certainly isn’t an interesting look. We can elevate that trend during the fall with moto jackets and oversized totes. It’s just easier to play with proportions and dimension when you can work with more material. Period.

2. GIVE ME THOSE JEWEL TONED SHADES YAAAASSSS

Had to. Sorry. Moving on; the dark berry lip is back and she’s better than ever. A timeless look that resurfaces every fall, but can seem too bold and too structured for those easy breezy summer months. Pair it with a distressed graphic tee, leather leggings and a metallic bomber and you are on to something. Jewel toned shades are always a win in September and I’m so glad because they make me feel like an edgy ice princess (my skin is translucent, in case you haven’t noticed) and I love it. This season jewel toned shades that are more unexpected can be…well, expected. Blue and green hued lips are super in and shockingly, super flattering (blue undertones make your teeth appear whiter, just saying). I’m already lining up my old favorites and eagerly hunting down some new ones.

3. THE WEATHER IS ACTUALLY A TRUE DELIGHT

I know this isn’t necessarily universal, but for a lot of people walking outside in September is like walking through all of your favorite romantic comedies. Crisp air, crunchy leaves, sunny but breezy. It makes me feel like Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail. Or just Meg Ryan in anything really. I’m lucky enough to live in San Francisco, home of the ice age summers and toasty autumns. The beautiful, sunny days during September make the chilly, fog coated August ones totally worth it.

4. MASHED POTATO SEASON IS UPON US

Alright, so this may be a little premature, but um, you guys. Thanksgiving is coming up. In two months. Closer to three actually. BUT IT’S ALMOST HERE. I’m sure you can guess what my favorite thanksgiving food is by now, but I am excited for all of the great food that comes with the fall season. As hard as I try not to be totally basic, I still get really excited about all of the new fall themed coffee drinks that grace the menu. Pete’s Coffee also comes out with their pumpkin pie bars and they are literally my crack. Any restaurant you go into has updated their menu with seasonal dishes that are decadent and hearty, perfect for the cooler(ish) months.

5. WE’RE WRAPPING THIS YEAR UP

When September rolls around, you know it’s real. Just a few short months away from saying goodbye to 2016 and welcoming 2017. The holidays are around the corner and school begins. Life seems to transition during September. It brings an overwhelming sense of newness and possibility into our lives that makes us feel like anything could change. It’s both an exciting and comforting time of year that releases both a sense of promise and relief whenever it rolls around.

What is your favorite part of September? Tell me in the comments!

Yasss!!! The clothes are my favorite part about the fall! Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t really change where I live until late October/ early November. But when the time comes, you will find me in cute tights, layers, and booties!

It’ll be pretty hot here until November, but I can never wait to start trying out the fall trends!
