Work can start to feel a lot less like work when you feel like you’re straight killing the game with your outfit. I often think to myself as an upset customer screams at me for a return policy I neither created nor have any control over, “Well at least I look fantastic”. Well, maybe I don’t think that exact thought (more like reminding myself that I like my job so smile and nod instead of telling this woman with the coffee stain on her discount white tee to go walk in front of a bus mean girl style) but it really makes me feel more confident, more prepared for my day and a lot happier when I feel like I look my best.

It can be easy to get into a fashion rut when you’re just trying to get yourself together enough in the morning so that you don’t forget to brush your teeth, but never fear! Here are three ways to spice up your work style without putting in that much more effort.

1. Unexpected Pairings Are Your Friend

Sometimes it really is all in the details. This little black dress (similar here, here and here)  combines an ultra feminine silhouette (skater skirts are so flirty) with edgy details like a studded collar and faux leather band to extenuate the waist line. I added this playful white bow belt (similar here and here)  to balance out the tough girl feel with something soft and paired it with comfortable and simple wedge heeled booties  (similar here) and my favorite work bag from Kate Spade (similar here). A whimsical statement necklace (similar here) pulls the entire look together.

2. Don’t Be Afraid of Color

Often times it can feel like dark hues and neutrals are the only way to go in a professional setting, but that’s so not the case. Anyone can incorporate color into their work wardrobe, it’s just about balancing it out with neutrals and being a little fearless. Mustard is one of my favorite colors so I had to get my favorite professional/anytime of day shirt from Express in this shade when I saw it (get a similar color but same style here and another fun pop of color here). These shirts are everything and even come in a sleeveless and slim fit option so they’re easy to layer and come in a thousand different prints and patterns that fit everyone’s style. This floral tote from Shoe Dazzle (same style in black here and another pretty floral option on sale here) adds a fun and fashion forward touch (plus holds a ton of stuff) to your outfit. Simple black pumps and gold jewelry are a perfect way to balance out that pop of color.

3. Blazers Really Do Make You Look More Professional

While I don’t think they’re only appropriate in the work place, the added element of structure will make any outfit tell the world that you mean business. Especially if you have a more laid back dress code or have casual Fridays or something equally cheesy. I picked out a cute shrunken version of the work place classic in a nice neutral shade (similar here and here) to make the whole look feel polished and put together. I paired it with yet another one of my favorite Portofino shirts from Express (get them here) and a dark wash pair of jeggings (get them here). Feminine black flats (similar here and here) with a fun zipper detail are stylish and comfortable.

Dressing well can really impact the way you feel during your work day so even if it means you have to plan your outfits the night before or wake up an extra ten minutes it can be so worth it to feel confident and happy! People compliment my outfits all the time (granted I work with all women so there’s a lot of “No, YOU look great. Stop!” being throw around) and it fills me with pride knowing that I look great. Looks obviously aren’t everything, but come on. Are you really trying to tell me you don’t love making heads turn?

What’s your go-to work style?

Xoxo,
