I have to admit, there’s something so relaxing and cool about summer time makeup looks. They’re easy and effortless and so low maintenance. Or at least they appear low maintenance. But just because summer is over doesn’t mean we have to immediately go from our favorite “no makeup” makeup looks to a dramatic contour and smokey eye. We can still achieve that cool girl makeup style during the fall with just a few simple alterations.

1. TRADE YOUR SHIMMERY BRONZER IN FOR A MATTE OPTION

Summer is all about glowing skin and shimmery finishes but an easy way to transition into fall is to switch it up with a matte bronzer. During the summer time my obsession is MAC’s Give Me Sun Mineralized Skin Finish, but come September you’ll see me rocking Benefit’s Hoola all day erryday.

2. SWIPE A MAUVE BLUSH INSTEAD OF A PINK ONE

Add some warmth to your cheeks with something a little bit more muted and fall-esque. Benefit’s Rockateur and Colorpop’s Butterfly Beach are subtle options that live in the mauve and dusty rose families vs. the barbie pink ones that we love so much in July.

3. A BOLD LIP IS ALL YOU NEED

When I’m running out the door, mascara, concealer and lipstick are my go-tos. A bold lip will instantly make you look pulled together and add an element of excitement to even the most minimal of looks. MACs Dark Side, Too Faced Melted Berry or Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte are all beautiful, bold and hydrating options that will complete any look.

4. REACH FOR A WARM EARTH TONED EYE SHADOW PALETTE INSTEAD

Love blending a neutral shade into your crease and calling it a day? Just grab a warm toned palette instead of those cool toned summer options and you’re instantly updated for fall. Something orange, chocolate or red hued is a step in the right direction. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette or the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette would be perfect picks to add some warmth to your eyes. Think crunchy autumn leaves!

5. PULL OUT YOUR HYDRATING PRODUCTS TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN

The wind and cold is your skin’s worst enemy. It can dry out even the oiliest of skin types and leave your foundation looking for lack of a better word…crusty. Gross! Keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated by gravitating towards products like Make Up For Ever’s Hydrating Primer, Urban Decay’s Chill Makeup Setting Spray and Glamglow’s PoutMud Fizzy Lip Exfoliating & Wet Lip Balm Treatment Duo. These will keep your skin and lips feeling smooth all autumn long!

As someone with little makeup knowledge/experience, these are very helpful tips. I wouldn’t have known to switch out my blush!
I look forward to seeing more posts about transitioning into the seasons!
