There is quite possibly nothing I look forward to more than a night spent with my girlfriends, eating delicious food, drinking wine and laughing hysterically. I’ve always been a “girl’s girl” and have never been someone with very many male friends. This is partly due to spending years as a manager at Victoria’s Secret and being constantly surrounded by funny, smart, driven women. Work friends became real-life friends who over the years have become forever friends.

Some friends I’ve met through college, some at bars, some I’ve known my whole life and some are family that I would have chosen as friends even if they weren’t. While I try to avoid being overly “woo woo” I honestly feel like each one was meant to be a special part of my life.

I truly cherish the female friendships I have and I know that my life would simply just not be the same without them. My friends are the people who cheer me on when I’m on top of my game and who lift me up when I feel like a failure. They listen to me gush about the new guy that I’m dating and plot murders when I’m heartbroken. They take a thousand pictures of my outfit without complaining and they support my career wholeheartedly even though it’s not necessarily a conventional one.

But more than just what they do for me, my friends are women who I look up to and admire. They’re women with heart who work hard and make things happen. They’re all in different phases in their lives but they own each one with grace and I love that I get to see them grow. They are dynamic and interesting and I feel incredibly lucky that I know them.

Whether they’re friends who live across the country or friends who live 5 minutes away, I am eternally grateful that they’re mine. I have friends who travel the world, who raise sweet children that I adore, who are crushing their careers and who are just doing really cool things with their lives. Despite our mutual hectic schedules and all of the “things”, we still figure out a way to stay connected. Whether that be through weekly skype calls, spending Tuesday nights guzzling wine on the couch together, or catching up every few months, I know that distance and time won’t get in our way.

When we do get to catch up it’s as if no time has passed at all and we immediately launch into sharing life updates and dating horror stories and by the time I leave my face hurts from smiling. I adore my friends and I value our friendships so much because I truly don’t know how I would get through life without them.

Overall, to me female friendship means having amazing women to lean on, support, look up to and celebrate. It means knowing that I have strong, fabulous ladies by my side to get through all the ups and downs of life with. It’s a special bond that I feel very lucky to experience.

We rely on our friends for a lot, so if you haven’t had a chance recently to thank them for all that they do, today is the perfect day. Everyone deserves to know that they are loved and appreciated!
